Is it healthy to stay at the computer all day?

One of the many significance of computers can be clearly seen in numerous fields. Information can be easily stored, important files can be safely saved and researching anything and everything have never been easier. With having a large memory capacity, everything is now possible with computer. Hence, the addition of applications and computer software has made a tremendous impact on our world today.

But did you know that staying at your computer and sitting all day might actually be killing you?

Numerous research and studies have discovered that staying at the computer all day and sitting for long periods can cause high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, obesity and even premature death.

Furthermore, sitting too much can cause chronic back pain, a lack of mobility and a host of other problems. But, it’s probably not realistic to quit your job because you have to sit all day. So, what should you do about it?

Here are five things you can do to offset some of the damages if you spend a lot of time working in front of your computer;

Optimize Your Setup

You want your keyboard in front of you and your seat height in a position where your arms are at about a 90 degree angle. If your keyboard is too high or too low, you are going to run into upper back, neck and shoulder issues. Also, avoid having your monitor too high as well as too low, but gazing slightly up at your monitor is optimal.

Find Time To Move Around

Move around, do stretching and exercise when you can throughout the day. It isn’t necessarily sitting that’s bad for you, it’s sitting with bad posture for extended periods of time. Go for a few minutes walk every so often, stand up or do other things whatever it is.

Try Not To Sit When Possible

There are situations when most people sit that you can get away with doing something else. For example in the evening, if you’re watching TV, lay down on the floor in front of the TV with a foam roller rather than sitting. Just look for those opportunities where you can be in hip extension rather than adding more sitting to your life.
